Dr Filimonau has a multi-disciplinary academic background which combines business management, social sciences, and natural sciences. His research interests revolve around food waste and consumer behaviour. To-date, Dr Filimonau has published 17 Scopus-indexed journal articles and 1 book on this topic. 

Expertise
Dr Filimonau studies the issue of food waste quantification and characterisation, especially in consumer facing enterprises, such as commercial hospitality and foodservice organisations. Dr Filimonau also examines the drivers of food waste at the consumer interface, alongside approaches to food waste prevention via management and policy interventions and behavioural change. To this end, Dr Filimonau investigates how the principles of behavioural economics can be effectively applied to prevent food waste generation by consumers of hospitality, foodservice and retail as well as other relevant stakeholders, such as chefs, employees, and business managers.
