Title: The local authorieties’ attitudes towards social entrepreneurship in the Małopolska Region (Poland).

The aim of the doctoral thesis (in preparation) is to explore the local authorieties’ attitudes towards social entrepreneurship in the Małopolska Region (Poland). To this end, 52 in-depth interviews were conducted in the period of 2019-2021 with commune leaders and representatives of institutions that support social entrepreneurship in the region.  The idea of social enterprises is seen differently by the local administration. In the local context some communes initiate setting up a social company (top-down initiative). More often, however, local authorities prefer a social enterprise to be created by an external local leader (bottom-up initiative). Local authorities encounter many obstacles when trying to activate social entrepreneurship at a local level (i.e. lack of local leaders, social disinterest).
